SANTA FE, NEW MEXICO

Smartphone Workshop/Tour

A great way to experience the City Different

Join photo artist John Farnsworth on a memorable

SMARTPHONE Workshop/Tour of Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Whether a visitor or a resident, you will learn to see through the eyes of an artist, and to use your iPhone or other smart phone camera to capture the people, places and things that make Santa Fe a city unlike any other.

John has made his living for the past fifty years painting, photographing, teaching and traveling throughout the Southwest and in Mexico, France, Italy, Spain, Argentina, Peru, Uruguay, Panama, and Guatemala.

A long time resident of Santa Fe, John now makes his home in Taos, New Mexico during the summer, and in the winter, he travels.

Discover Santa Fe.

 Discover the Artist in You.

Learn what you can do with your camera.

Learn what your smartphone camera is capable of.

Learn to tell stories with your photographs.

Make better photographs that you can be proud of.

Hang them on your wall or share with your friends... and the the world.

Learn to see with the Eye of an Artist in this

unforgettable, informative and innovative experience.

Not sure about “f/stops”? Confused by “aperture”? Dazed by “shutter speed” and “focal length”? Don’t worry! Let your camera take care of all that. It can, and it will. It has a brain.

Instead, think in terms of lighter, darker, what is or isn’t in the picture, and what is the thing that fires your passion to take the photograph. You have a heart!

If something catches your eye, shoot it.

Things happen fast on the street; and in life. If you have time, set your focus, lighten or darken the image, try a vertical and a horizontal shot, move in closer and/or back off to include more of the scene. If you don’t have time, shoot it anyway! Don’t be afraid. You just might get lucky.

Content is far more important than a technically perfect image.

You might not get a good photo, but you can always learn from your mistakes. It’s not like you’re wasting expensive film. Just be sure you don't miss a good opportunity to capture a special moment.

Morning Session

Ten am to Noon. Canyon Road, unique and adobe architecture, colorful old gates, sculpture, flowers, gardens, people all make for a stunning area of photographic subjects. World famous Gallery and Restaurant row and surroundings. Begin the discovery of who you are as a photographer.

Lunch

(Optional, Dutch treat)

Enjoy a leisurely lunch hour, discussing and comparing our shots and experiences from our morning session and planning for the afternoon adventure. We might even play a bit with developing our images right on our phones, This would also be a good time to charge our batteries and download images as needed.

Afternoon Session

Two to Four pm. Downtown Santa Fe, Old Santa Fe Trail, the Plaza, the Railyard and surrounding areas. Great for street photography, historic architecture, gardens, courtyards, interiors, churches, and museums. Try it all and get to know what you like shooting best.

Evening Session

Six to eight pm. Location to be announced by email at time of registration.

Bring your iPad, roll up your sleeves, and get ready to have a great time playing with our photos from the day's shooting, using the best apps available today, such as:

  • Snapseed

  • TouchRetouch

  • ACDSee

  • Lightroom

  • AfterFocus

  • Affinity

  • Focos and others.

Compare. Edit. Share.

Make your snapshot sketches into

frameable, sharable, works of art!

Make a book or a keepsake album of your vacation.

Don't have an iPad or Android tablet? Don't worry. Most of these apps will work on your smart phone, too. You just won't have as much screen space. It is quite possible to shoot, sort, edit, share, and print with just your phone.

If you're bringing a laptop, you will need a software program you are familiar with using. We will still be covering essentially the same processes and procedures for getting the most out of your photographs.

Join photo artist John Farnsworth on this

memorable SMARTPHONE Workshop/Tour exploration of the

people, sites and treasures of Santa Fe, New Mexico.

We will play hard at shooting and editing and making new friends. We might even throw in a little video shooting if you're interested.
